CAMOUFLAGE 2008

MENSWEAR
"My fascination for garment construction has compelled me to design and make a jacket, revealing what goes on inside the creation. The man’s jacket reveals the inner workings of highly detailed tailoring. The chest plates, shoulder pads and stitchwork are the necessary sculptural layers in its creation. Material used in these hidden layers has also been designated the main fabric for the jacket, combined with camouflage print."

WOMENSWEAR
"Drawing inspiration from the desert sand combat kit, I have created two dresses with heavy construction detail. By echoing the camouflage print outline, the dark green "Lined" dress's emphasis has been placed on the seam lines using a different coloured ribbon. These have caused a disruptive pattern up and down the dress with jagged edges around the neckline, back and hem. I used silk paper as a top layer in parts to exaggerate further the depth of layering in this creation.
My approach with the desert sand "Pleats" dress, which was placed on display in the Bon Accord Centre Aberdeen, was to create an evening piece using the camouflage printed cotton, Silk Matka covered with a Silk Organza. By pleating the cotton underneath the gold organza, a softer more luxurious finish is achieved. Finally, the straps are inspired by the criss-cross effect on the desert sand combat kit helmet."
